Jacqui has a Bachelor of Education (University of Auckland) and Diploma of

Teaching ECE (Auckland College of Education). Jacqui has been teaching at

Pakuranga Baptist Kindergarten since 1998, and has been head teacher there

since 2001.

“I have been strongly influenced by the pedagogical approach of the teachers of

Reggio Emilia, and how this way of working connects so well with Te Whāriki. I

am fascinated by children’s theories and find great joy in investigating their

ideas with them. I love the way early childhood can follow an inquiry-based

model of learning, and offer provocations for learning that enable children to

investigate there emerging theories and support teachers to weave through

many aspects of curriculum, so that children learn in a way that is meaningful for

them and connected to their lives in such a rich way.

The focus shifts from simply recording what children are doing to wondering about what they might be thinking, theorising and making sense of. 

We will EXPLORE: 

• Explore how teams can gather around raw documentation—photos, notes, transcripts, and traces of learning— multiple perspectives and, where possible, include children’s voices in the interpretation. (great for teams to do together)
• ways of using shared dialogue, and documentation to think forward.
• Identifying meaningful provocations, richer questions, and intentional teaching strategies to extend children’s learning and inquiry.

Walk away with practical ideas for using shared reflection to plan, provoke, and inspire richer learning opportunities for every child.
